The track sub-district meet was this week. The top six in each race get to move on to the district level. He qualified to run the mile and 2 mile. He took 9th in the mile on Thursday. The 2 mile race was on Saturday.
He battled between 4th and 5th for the first 6 laps.
Then he fell to 6th place the last lap.
He had 6th place wrapped up. Then around the final turn he stumbled. About 20 meters from the finish line a guy passed him. You could see him try to pick it up and he stumbled again almost falling this time. He didn't have anything left. We were blessed he made it to the finish line, because he collapsed as soon as he crossed.
He had a personal record, but came in 7th place. He then spent the next hour with the medic. I could see him, but could not get to him. Panic moment!! I finally ran out on to the track and made my way to him. He had just given it all he had as he says, "Left it all on the field." He was heartbroken to have come so close and have to attend the district meet as an alternate. He did AWESOME and I am so proud of him.
